Hide & Seek Style.

How to Wear (hide out in) a Cream Silk Dress:

I’ll be honest, the girl in the shot below would not necessarily be the sharpest tool in the shed if the game at hand was hide and seek. However, she may be the most stylish player, and that counts for something.

This image reminded me of the secret hide out I had as a child. My parents would have dinner parties, and after partaking in the obligatory greeting of the random tall people (looked a lot like this: arm extended vertically, handshake while simultaneously tugging at the tights my mom made me put on, feigned smile; not anti-social, just never was one who enjoyed formaities), I’d grab some food or a notebook and b-line it to my ‘spot.’

My spot wasn’t a window sill behind a heavy curtain. Instead, I would squeeze my entire body in-between the two legs holding up the massive, cold, marble slab that was our dining room table. It’s the same table we eat Thanksgiving dinner on today and, although I’ve tried, I don’t fit anymore. So, inspired by the below image, I’ve created a look featuring a silk cream Marc Jacobs dress, and to pay homage to my childhood secret, I’m showing you how to wear it, all grows-up style. First, the editorial catalyst for my brush with nostalgia:

As promised, how to wear the silk cream dress:

1. Marc by Marc Jacobs Below The Knee Dress– $428 (www.barneys.com) 2. Badgley Mischka ‘Randall’ Pump– $99.90 from $200 (www.nordstrom.com) 3. KAOS Shawl– $78 (www.yoox.com) 4. Kendra Scott ‘Adora’ Earrings– $73 from $96 (www.zappos.com) 5. Oscar de la Renta Whipsnake Medallion Clutch– $950 (www.marissacollections.com)

From the flowy, below-the-knee dress, to the floral-toe pump, the look is quintessentially feminine. Embellishment comes in the way of Kendra Scott chandelier earrings and Oscar de la Renta’s whipsnake medallion clutch that, both my inner-ten year old and my current thirty-year old self, covet equally. The shawl feels very ‘Audrey’/little red riding hood (the function of invisible cape could also be applied here) and is the perfect finishing touch.

Look out, look out wherever you are…

Trust me when I tell you this is just one dress out of more than I can count on all my fingers and toes. There seems to perpetually be a place each week for dress favorites that I’ve pulled and edited down from the best of what’s out there in Fashion Land. See more dresses and how to wear them.
