Phillip Lim’s Prefall Look Inspires a Sweater/Dress Combo

A Bold Orange Dress & How to Wear It:

Um, yea, it’s true, Phillip Lim is a darling of fashion and can do no wrong in my eyes. Snore-worthy, you’ve-read-the-same-thing-on-style.com-a-bagillion-times fashion speak aside, I’m usually not a fan of all things orange, but this dress had me at first glance. The cozy layered sweater see in the runway shot inspired the below take on how-to-wear this sift, citrus dress:

Coral, sure, a pale tangerine, maybe, but that bold, tic-tac orange usually results in “cringe-face,” similar to “screen-face” (the look you get after sitting in front of a computer screen for far too many hours (it’s half ‘beam-me-up-Scotty-with-bloodshot-eyeballs,’ and the other half, “I’m figuring out right at the very moment that human evolution is now in a state of regression if that’s even possible;’), but slightly more expressive.

But enough on facial expressions. It’s time to figure out how to wear this runway look, because I’m positive I won’t be figuring out why, out of all the oranges I’ve seen going down on all the runway joints of the world, this one stuck.

Here is my reinterpretation of this simple Lim look:

1. Patterson J. Kincaid Button-Front Tank Dress- $128 (www.saksfifthavenue.com) 2. American Vintage Charcoal Melange V-Neck Pullover- $105 (www.stylebop.com) 3. Guess ‘Joolu’ Clog- $125 (www.shop.guess.com) 4. Deena & Ozzy Architectural Satchel- $68 (www.urbanoutfitters.com) 5. Satya Jewelry Gold Vermeil Crescent Earring- $88 (www.endless.com)

Check, it, out. This one isn’t rocket science. I loved all of it except the grey sock action happening at the ankle. It’s not a look I’d reccommend to the majority of the population seeing as how it basically acts as a vertical block on the eye-line, aka, stunts any height you were going for while wearing heels to elongate the leggy part of the equation. That said, the ease of this look is what really appeals to me.

The pullover bring some layering weight over the flowy dress. It gets a little more casual and sporty with that grey addition. The neutral shoe from Lim’s look is swapped out for a grey clog that actually looks nothing like the clogs I’ve seen in my fashion-past. They’re actually cute. Next, the somewhat structured looking satchel that has great detail and a modern take on a vintage vibe. A little gold will do on the ears thanks to these crescent earrings. It’s a solid pop of something metallic but keeps it understated.

The equation: Get the dress. Layer a bit, throw in some classic accessories, and get that pop of color to say something unexpected. Thank you Mr. Lim.

Dresses are not few and far between in the land of fashion. Amazing dresses, on the other hand, takes a little editing and an eye for it. See more dress favorites out there and how to wear them.
