BCBG’s Color-Block Dress & How to Wear It:
This flutter-sleeve, cocktail-esquedress from BCBG is a new favorite. The sleeve detail and high-hem paired with a slouchy boot won me over even though I went another direction with my ‘how-to-wear-it’ equation, but first, Fashion 101: Color-blocking…What is it you ask? When pieces of fabric in just a few bold colors are sewn together to create one piece, you’ve got yourself a color-blocked garment.
This look can be completely fitting for ‘cocktails,’ or even switched out with a pump, cardi, and opaque tights for daytime. See the twilight take on how to wear the dress below:

1. BCBGeneration Color-Blocked Flutter-Sleeve Dress- $59 from $88 (www.bcbg.com) 2. BCBGMAXAZRIA Open Front Cardigan- $88 (www.bloomingdales.com) 3. Boutique 9 “Dorthea” Bootie- $129.94 (www.dsw.com) 4. Urban Expressions Large Embossed Envelope Clutch- $47.50 (www.ebags.com) 5. Kara Ross Stingray Earrings- $175 (www.saksfifthavenue.com) 6. Trina Turk “Niagara” Black and Gold-Plated Ring- $68 (www.endless.com)
The dress can stand on it’s own, but the cardigan was brought into the fashion equation in case it’s a little chilly or you’re feeling like a little more coverage.
A slouchy suede boot looks amazing, but it’s not realistic in my opinion. Ok, maybe it’s realistic, but not universally flattering. I could see some body types taking the product shot literally, only to end up walking the fine line between working the trend, working the corner. My alternative to the boot is, of course, the bootie. This leather, cinched at the heel bootie from Boutique 9 works well. If legs aren’t your best asset, go with a pump so the vertical eye-line doesn’t get cut.
A basic black envelope clutch will hold pretty much anything you need for the night, and pull the rest of the look together with these insanely unique stingray statement earrings from Kara Ross, and Trina Turk’s black and gold plated ring. The geometric shapes on the jewelry mimic the black and blue color-blocking on the dress. See?
And there you have one way to wear this fabulous BCBGeneration dress.
