I love a good vest as much as the other girl, but they can be a little tricky. Especially when they deviate from the classic, structured theme and go all soft on you. So, how do you wear a vest? Let’s start with the right piece…

This drape front knit vest from Redbird ($138 @ www.luvcharlie.com) is a cashmere blend and has some noteworthy details, i.e. the circular knitting going on all over the place and the racer-back that adds a little edge.

How to wear this vest…Throw a long sleeve crew neck top underneath, like this basic from Michael Stars (a name that, for me, means I need to buy five of every piece because I want to have them forever and backups are a must) for layering.
You can definitely go with the skinny jean, but honestly, I wanted to get back to the flare cut for just a second to give my circulation a break. The dark, Jackson Painter jeans in black (now 40% off plus use the code LOVE and get another 15% off) works right into the  fashion equation.

Next the accessories. This look needed a pop of color and since I happen to be a fan of purple, I pulled out this ‘Cheyenne’ purple sueded fringe bag from Charlie My Love at revolveclothing.com. There’s a lot of look with this bag between the chain strap, fringe, and oh yea, it’s dayglow purple. I’m crazy for it, but it will be an emotional piece, some with love while others run screaming in the opposite direction.

Banana Republic keeps rolling out some amazing jewelry and this semi-precious coin pendant necklace is no exception. It’s a sweet, demure touch that stays happily on the perimeter of the bold jewelry trend going on right now. Did I mention it’s under $40.00? Cause yea,  it is.

I liked the idea of taking the soft, draped shape of this knit vest and cinching it with a classic black patent belt just to emphasize the female silhouette, never a bad thing.

Finally, these ‘Rue B’ peep toe pumps from Velvet Angels (now $147.50 from $205.00 @ www.shopbop.com) kind of make me batty in a good way. They’re satin, have tassels, a stretchy slingback heel that won’t slide off every two seconds, and a towering heel which said stretchy elastic inset will come in handy for. Crazy for these and having them peep out of the hem on the flared jeans is making me happy.
