So, in the nineties, cargo pants came on to the scene designed with a completely utilitarian use in mind. You know, the tough, outdoorsy, go-get-the-knife-to-clean-the-fish-and-then-protect-the-group-from-grizzly-bears, kind of thing (all while doing a one-armed push up). And by my writing of the previous sentence, you are now painfully aware at how far removed I am from anything having to do with camping.
That said, the cargo pant’s original purpose has been turned on it’s head with Andrew Gn’s Fall 2011 collection. The cropped, lightweight, zipper-heavy version from the runway may not be the best choice if you’re Bear Grylls and about to be dropped off onto some desolate patch of treacherous terrain. Have a causal Saturday function to attend though, and you’re completely covered.
That sense of polished ease is what I wanted to recreate, so, I did. Here’s the runway inspiration:

Here is my take on how to wear it:

This one is all about keeping is clean and simple. There’s a basic black backdrop achieved with the pants and top. Polish is off with a couple of neutrals and some accessories. Done and done.
