Proenza Schouler is known for their attention to a woman’s bustline, amongst other things. That said, the bustier construction is always something that could be considered just one small part of their signature look.
I found the below bustier tank top marked down on outnet.com and fell in love with a few key things. The criss cross back pulls the shoulder straps in when looking at the tank from the front, which creates a halter-ish effect that accentuates the shoulders.
There’s also empire seaming right under the bust that keeps the eye right where you want it and makes this tank uber comfy, should you be planning to gorge yourself on sushi or bbq that evening. It’s just an easy top that has a classic and universally flattering cut you’ll be able to get some wear out of as temps begin to rise. For me, it’s a thoughtless piece I can grab that I know will always work whether it’s a casual or cocktail occasion.

Now, time to figure out how to wear this bustier tank top:
The volume along the hem calls for a streamlined bottom, enter the grey wash skinny jean from BDG @ urbanoutfitters. I’m a huge fan of this trend driven line for two reasons, it is comfy and it is inexpensive . So we have the jeans down, now what to wear on the feet.
You could go all out gladiator and strappy here, keep it casual with a printed flat, or in this case, get dolled up for an evening look with this super girly, satin/patent, d’orsay pump. I saw Paris Hilton’s name attached to it and almost vetoed the idea from the fashion equation, but the silhouette was right on and the price made me smile so I went with it.
Next, pull it all together with a bag and cuff. This CC Skye gold/black geometric cuff is not for the faint of heart in the fashion arena(what did you expect right? It all started with a bustier tank so demure is not really the look we’re going for). This bracelet is like a vintage discovery you’d find hiding under old stacks of yellow newspapers at an estate sale. Crazy about it.
Finally, an oversized clutch from asos.com that uses a bold gold ‘V’ to bring together bright violet and a practically neon cobalt blue. This clutch does a lot of the talking for you, so if you’re not comfy with that, now’s your chance to opt out and go with a black or muted metallic. The pic doesn’t give you scale so click to view what it looks like on model. I’m not lying when I use the term oversized. Is it me, or does this clutch look like a symbol that belongs on the cape of some Marvel comics action hero? Right? Super Clutch….
