Barbara Bui’s Resort 2011 look was the inspiration behind this short story. The concept of taking a classic tweed, nubby, Chanel-esque jacket and pairing that with some shorts did not strike me as having been ‘done.’ It’s a new take that pairs casual with slightly more lady-like, and I’m loving the contrast. Here’s the look from the runway with some notes:

See how to wear it below:

1. J. Crew Technicolor Tweed Jacket- $595 (www.jcrew.com) | 2. T by Alexander Wang Cami Tank- $87 (www.barneys.com) | 3. T by Alexander Wang Classic Racer-Back Jersey Tank- $75 (www.net-a-porter.com) | 4. Old Navy Pleated Charmeuse Shorts- $26.94 (www.oldnavy.gap.com) | 5. Sam Edelman ‘Kellan’ Wedge- $117 from $225 (www.jildorshoes.com) | 6. DVF ‘Harper’ Connect Leather Daybag- $695 (www.dvf.com)
I’ll make this super simple for you. The J.Crew jacket falls right into place, covering the tweed part of the equation. Old Navy steps up with some basic black, ridiculously affordable, charmeuse shorts and Sam Edelman brings it yet again with a pair of lace-up wedges that are all about the laser-cut details along the sides.
Layering comes into play with two tops from T by Alexander Wang, one a racerback, one a cami, both perfect for the look. Finally, three letters recognizable to anyone who is working in, or adores fashion, DVF’s (Diane von Furstenberg) ‘Harper’ day bag that goes cross-body and keeps things in line with the perfectly neutral hue, brings this look home.
