Meet nfp studio, otherwise known as New Form Perspective. There’s quite the story behind this new (to me at least) line, but before I get there, I want to warm it up with some images of my two favorite pieces from the collection (trust me, the editing process was not an easy one):
So, I’m going to attempt to do the condensed version of the story on how I was first introduced to Gail Travis, the name behind this ridiculously gorgeous knitwear line. It begins with my parents who took a trip to New York for a wedding. While in town, the two peas in a pod hit up a craft fair market. Having both spent years in retail, they have developed an eye and absolutely love to talk with people, designers, about their creations (if they like them of course).
Well, my mother flipped when she met Gail. So much so, that I did not hear the end of it. These sweaters had her swooning and she was practically begging me to put them up on my site as a review. This is where the new ‘Introducing’ section began actually…
Here’s where it gets good though. I had the contact info from my mother, sent Gail a note, and after a few emails back and forth, was planning on reviewing a couple of samples she would send over. Then, I was sent to New York myself on an impromptu trip. I had three days, one filled with interviews, so the agenda was tight.
I met up with a good friend I met through the buying offices years ago, and we went wandering. You should know that my version of wandering in NYC involves plenty of food and cocktails. We found ourselves in Chelsea market going ga ga over a brownie shop when my friend saw a pop up market going on across the way.
So I reluctantly stumbled in with her, I’ve never had the patience to really shop (hence the obsession with the web), but I figured, why not? Lo and behold people, I kid you not, I turn my head only to see a logo on a poster that looked very familiar.
It was Gail. Could I have planned this? No way in hell. Did I take it as a sign. Yes, of course. Then did I start chatting the brilliant designer up and asking to take pictures? Um, yes. This is kismet. Not only that, this is really a remarkable line.
Check out my latest obsession below:
I’m a writer. My strengths may not lie in photography, I admit that, but I thought it would be great to see the web site’s product shot and then what I was able to get my hands on, so here we go…

There were so many ways to wear this top it was dizzying, let alone the amazing price:

Another favorite, here’s the site product shot:

My touch and feel shot from the showroom:

The above piece is the cozy sweater you live in from Fall through Winter, no question. The cream color was rich and the details kept it looking truly original, not an easy feat when it comes to sweaters. Actually, that is what stood out the most from this line. It was, and is, so original. Travis’ eye is impeccable, a result of her pedigree I am sure, but also an inspired creative side.
So that’s my story. This is where Introducing began and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. I have to thank Gail for being so kind and open with the entire process. Her work inspired me, after a decade in luxury retail where I’ve seen it all, so that is saying a lot. I hope, well my only hope, is that it can inspire you as well.
Gail’s knitwear is just one of the many independent designers out there that I am adoring discovering. See more names and lines that are making their way into the ‘Introducing‘ section of SBF, and getting their rightfully deserved cameo.
