How to Wear a Maxi Skirt:
Thank you Alberta Ferretti, for all of the luxurious, uber-femme, divinely draped, layered goodness that you send down the runway with each season that passes. This Spring’s namesake collection was no exception. Unless you’ve been playing house under an exorbitantly large boulder lately, you’ve heard the term ‘maxi.’ And again, unless you’ve really settled into the whole rocky-real-estate ‘sitch’ (I get lazy, so translation=situation), said term (maxi) is usually followed with the word, ‘dress.’ Well, not this time.
Chop the dress in half, leave the lower part of the equation to fly freely as you make your entrance into spring/summer, and you’ve got yourself a maxi skirt. Now, all of that said and done, how in the hell are you going to wear this billowy, boho-chic little number? Well, for me it was simple. I just let Ferretti do her fashion thing and lead the way:

1. MICHAEL Michael Kors Trench- $225 (www.michaelkors.com), 2. Foley + Corinna Tulip Print Rambler Skirt- $290 (www.shopbop.com), 3. James Perse Jersey Tank- $65 (www.net-a-porter.com), 4. Bernardo Mojito Flat Sandal- $99.50 from $146 (www.piperlime.gap.com) , 5. House of Harlow Long Arrow Ring in Rose Gold- $65 (www.revolveclothing.com), runway image courtesy of www.style.com.
Again, the best looks, in my opinion, always involve an element of simplicity. Like good food, there’s no need to over-spice here. Each ingredient should not only speak for itself, but play well with the others to create a cohesive look that, although inspired by the runway, is all your own.
The above ‘take’ on how to wear a maxi skirt is just one perspective. The options, similar to the length of some of the maxi skirts I’ve seen out there, are endless. Play around with just one investment piece in a neutral color or print, and you have yourself covered for summer. Hmm, this gives me an idea. Maybe I’ll do a ways to wear one featured item. One skirt, ten ways to wear. I like it. Thoughts?
