How to Wear YSL’s-Runway Inspired, Wide-Leg Pant Look:
It’s a joke where I work that everyone always wears black. When we all go to a company-wide event, you can see it a mile away. ‘It’ referring to the sea of black labels that the everyday consumer may not recognize, but by god, for those navigating these fashion-saavy waters, awareness of last season’s Balenciaga boots clomping down on the concrete in front of you is a must.
Personally, I try to wear as much color as possible, although, as of late, I’ve found myself not wanting to really think out the ensemble in the cold, bleak, wintry mornings. So I’ve been finding myself in the closet, pulling one hand away from the coffee mug, and and allowing it to gravitate towards anything and everything black.
Enter, YSL.

Right, so keep in mind I’m not an advocate of day-glo orange eye shadow, or the shade in general really. A bright pink lip, ok, when the time is right. Nor am I about the long necklace that has a pendant hitting at a strategically placed level spot, but this is why it’s a runway show. The translation usually isn’t meant to be completely literal. Yes, the designers need the buyers to buy, but leave it up to the retailers, stylists, and customers to figure out how they see it. Speaking of, check out my reinterpretation of this runway look below:

1. Ella Moss ‘Bodega’ Blouse- $148 (www.shopbop.com) 2. Theory Swing Wide-Leg Pant- (www.saksfifthavenue.com) 3. ‘Aldo ‘Ebia’ Bootie- $119.98 from $150 (www.aldoshoes.com) 4. Kendra Scott Statement Necklace- $120 (www.bluefly.com) 5. Mackage Leather Gloves- (www.mackage.com)
Where to begin…I think the Ella Moss top is a good spot. This 100% silk blouse looks very ‘boho’ in the product shot above. It’s something I like about this top because you can tuck it into a proper trouser and pull off ‘boardroom,’ but at the same time, the sleeves and silhouette lend themselves to an easier, more casual look. Speaking of tucking the blouse into some wide leg pants, check out the black, wide-leg ‘swing pant‘ from Theory. These wide leg pants have a bit of flare at the hem, but manage to not go overboard with that little detail. They hit mid-waist, have a flat front, and will quickly become a go-to pant in your closet. The fabric is a heavier weight as well so that works into the overall look, i.e. a lightweight silk wouldn’t cut it on this one.
Aldo hits every season with a few shoes that I seem to always covet. This ‘Ebia’ bootie is right in line with that. I love a bootie (sounds wrong but you get what I’m saying) because they aren’t a lot of muss and fuss to put on, they stay on, and are comfy nine times out of ten. I’m also a fan of the slightly rounded toe over the platform at the foot bed. If pointy toes are in, you’re good. If round toes make their way onto the scene, again, you’re covered. Next the necklace from Kendra Scott. I, am, in, love. It’s smokey topaz, there is feather detailing, and it lays right below the neckline. It is also the definition of a statement necklace, which is great for me because it does all the talking by itself.
Ok, I had to throw in the leather gloves. I probably wouldn’t wear them indoors, but with recent temps dropping below twenty degrees, they don’t seem so far-fetched. Plus, they’re from Mackage, a personal favorite when it comes to outerwear, and I guess now, glovies.
As a source of inspiration, the runway never lets me down. Wide-leg pants are one thing, but there’s so much more when it comes to making the lower-half fashionably on-trend. See more of my pant favorites and how to wear them.
