How to Wear Orange Wide-Leg Pants:
Sure, sure. Orange wide-leg pants are not for everyone. Understood. But the way Adam Lippes put them out there in his Spring 2011 collection is definitely making them seem far more on-trend and realistic than any other interpretation I’ve seen lately.
The best part about such a pop color on the bottom half of the ensemble, is that it does all the talking for you. Very little thought needs to go into the neutral on top, and I don’t know about you, but the less I have to think about what to wear while standing, bleary-eyed, in front of my closet each morning, the better.

This look is a straight-forward one. The pants, courtesy of Red Valentino (Valentino’s diffusion, or less expensive, line), hit the nail on the head for what I was looking for. The cuffed hem on the wide leg combined with the pocket details at the waist, make these pants a seamless fit for pulling of the runway look.
Next, the tank top from McQ by Alexander McQueen. It has some soft, neutral, volume to it which really is all you need. The runway look combines a tone-on-tone cami with a knit, button-front vest. I decided to take the simpler route. Tuck the tank into the pant, and you’re good.
The sandal from Badgley Mischka has been a favorite of mine that I’ve been holding on to, waiting for it to have it’s moment in the spotlight. Well, it’s time, so here it is. Simple, but with a few key details that keep things interesting.
The bag, another personal favorite from Chloe that I’ve been coveting since it came out, is a rich butterscotch/camel brown that felt ‘right,’ back to the saturated orange pant. I contemplated grey here as well, but this handbag is spoke to me, so it’s in.
Last but not least, the long gold-tone necklace with three birds on the top chain. Sure, it could skew a little ’kitsch,” but I am in love with it (along with the price) and happen to think it falls right in line with this look. Finish it up with an earthy beaded bracelet set and some vintage inspired sunglasses, and you’ve got yourself a look. Layer a cardi on top for work or chilly days…done and done.
Bright, summery, wide-leg orange pants are definitely a step outside of neutral. Ok, leap, they’re a major leap outside of neutral territory. I’m just warming up with these wide-legs. Don’t stop here, check out more pants, skirts, and items that fit into the bottom half of any fashion equation, not to mention how to wear them.
